(Help mobolize the ecomomy and asked several business leaders to serve on the Committee). Instead of asking for bids on contracts they signed cost-plus contracts. Great Depression was ending and sale were rising. Henry Ford created the B-24 Liberator. Henry Kraiser joined the shipbuilding and he believed that the speed of building boats were more important than quality and how much it was. He spent as long as it took to get it done fast. Kaiser built all sorts of ships, but best known as Liberty Ships. Liberty ships were basic ships used for the army. In the spring men opposed a Peace-Time draft. Congress approved the draft BIG TIME, which created an Army. In the army they were trained a lot, they were trained to use and how to work the army supplies and weapons. Recruiters that were done with training were sent to reception centers to get physical exams and injections on smallpox. In the beginning U.S. Military was segregated where white recruits did not train along side African Americans. Women joined the Armed Forces. Women helped with administrative and clerical jobs. More men were able to go out to war from this.

Many people believed married women should not work. Most working women were young, single and employed. Women working in the factories was what the public was most interested in.

Many Mexican Bracero (worker) came to harvest fruit and vegetable. They also helped to build and maintain railroads. Migrant farmworkers became important in the Southwest Agricultural System.
Tents and Trailer parks were packed with workers. Nearly 2 million people lived in government built in housing during the war. Gangs of white and African American teenage girls began fighting.
When Japanese attacked, many americans believed that Japanese immigrants and Japanese Americans were Japanese spies. They were relocated to a camp. Japanese Americans were never sabotaged and they served as translators for the army during the war.
Federal Government spends more than 300 billion during the WWII. Government raise taxes, and promise to repay bonds that they had used.
